Reviews

93 points. John Gilman, View from the Cellar
“The 2021 Sonoma Valley bottling of Syrah comes in at an even thirteen percent octane, was fermented with indigenous yeasts and raised in neutral five hundred liter puncheons for eighteen months prior to bottling. The wine delivers a superb bouquet of black raspberries, sweet cassis, black olives, pepper, smoked meats, volcanic soils and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, pure and full-bodied, with stunning transparency, a lovely core, ripe, well-integrated tannins and excellent focus and grip on the long, complex and impeccably balanced finish. A beautiful wine in the making. 2033-2075+.”

Vineyard Notes

Introducing our Sonoma Valley Syrah from the Kuenster-Miers Vineyard at the southeastern base of the Sonoma Mountains. Ten years ago we sat down to design a vineyard that would express everything we love about classic Syrah. We chose three of our favorite Syrah field selections, Chave, Alban, and Noir, and planted them as a massale block. Sheltered from climatic extremes, the consistent cool nights and warm days provide an ideal growing climate for Syrah of full flavor intensity and impeccable balance. Black fruits, olive, pepper, and graphite are complemented by youthful acidity, fine tannin, and strong minerality. Instantly enjoyable and delicious, but will allow for many years of evolution in the cellar for those with patience!

Cellar Notes

As with all of our wines, we chose to utilize traditional techniques in the winery. On the morning of September 12th, the grapes were picked, sorted, and placed in small, upright wood fermentors. Fermentation occurred naturally and gentle pumping over of the juice was carried out twice daily. The wine was then aged for 18 months in two large, 500L Puncheons and one neutral barrique.
